We’ve been hearing about Mmmly everywhere, so we are thrilled to chat with you and learn more!
Martie: What’s the mission behind Mmmly?
Nick: Mmmly is a nostalgic, good-for-you cookie brand. We’re on a mission to make it easy to eat what you love by offering cherished classic cookies with good-for-you benefits. Our original line of soft-baked cookies combine the perfect balance of protein, healthy fats, fiber, and real fruit sugar (40% less than the competitors) with a craveworthy classic flavor.
Martie: How did the idea come to life for Mmmly?
Nick: When I was younger I struggled with my relationship to food. It was a love hate relationship. After doing a lot of personal work I decided to pursue a career in food. After years of training with acclaimed chefs and working in Michelin star restaurants, I decided I wanted to make it easy for people to be healthy. As a pastry chef, I dedicated myself to turning those delicious, sugar-filled treats into something that people like me could actually feel good about eating. After a lot of testing in the kitchen, our cookie recipe was born. Who doesn’t love cookies?
Martie: True! We love cookies! What’s your favorite Mmmly cookie?
Nick: Definitely our Dark Chocolate Chip soft baked cookies. They’re our best-seller and the perfect healthy take on a classic, offering functional benefits while never compromising on indulgence.
Martie: Why cookies?
Nick: Consumers want good-for-you, and the cookie category is ripe for innovation. In recent years, we’ve seen brands like Olipop, Magic Spoon, Halo Top, and more, reinvigorate their categories with functional benefits. Mmmly is paving the way for functional in the cookie category in hopes to create incremental growth of category share of good-for-you brands.
Martie: What has been your biggest “aha” moment when building Mmmly?
Nick: The first time I sampled my original recipes at a local farmers market (and not with family and friends :) ). The feedback was honest and good. Consumers were surprised to hear of the functional and wellness benefits after tasting how delicious the cookies were.
Martie: How did Mmmly get so well known?
Nick: A lot of grassroots efforts! Myself and our small but mighty team spent the early days meeting our customers at demos, community activations, and more. It helped us to build brand interest and recognition while showing our early retail partners that we were committed to building our brand within their stores.
Martie: What’s in the pipeline next for Mmmly?
Nick: Flavor innovation including some nut-free options. We’re excited to offer school safe products and continue to expand our customer base through allergen-friendly inclusivity. We’re also getting ready to launch a crowdfunding campaign on WeFunder to support this recipe development along with growth into new retail partners you know and love!
Martie: Why is working with Martie important to Mmmly?
Nick: Martie’s founders come from a CPG background, and so they understand the many nuances and causes of surplus inventory. Our team is inspired by their efforts to support brands by rescuing this surplus and educating consumers on challenges that emerging brands face such as code dating, packaging changes, limited time offerings, and more.
